Evolution’s new guided activities for learners

Guided activities for business simulation

You may have noticed new activities appearing on your Evolution Control Tower recently. What are these activities, and how can they help learners develop business skills?

These activities give educators a structured way to guide learners through the simulation while building core business knowledge.

Here’s a quick overview of what to expect from Evolution’s new activities:

Business Essentials and Getting Started

The Getting Started and Business Essentials activities are now live in Evolution. These releases are the first of several new additions, expanding the range of activities and scenarios available for learners.

Business Essentials is a programme of five Pathway activities designed to help learners:

  • Practice the basics of using the Evolution business simulation
  • Understand fundamental business principles

Programmes in Evolution are sequential activities that focus on a specific learning objective or theme. Think of Business Essentials as a “business primer”, laying the foundation for further exploration of:

  • Business startup and entrepreneurship
  • Business management and strategy
  • Business behaviours, leadership, and teamwork

Our goal is to make learning smooth, effective, and engaging for learners at all levels.

What is a Pathway activity?

Pathway activities let learners progress through Evolution independently. They guide users step by step, explaining objectives, concepts, and strategies. Pathways activities focus attention on key business knowledge, skills, and principles.

The Getting Started and Business Essentials activities are Pathway activities, giving learners a clear roadmap through the simulation.

Exciting new activities to expect

In addition to Pathway activities, additional activities that offer different learning experiences are in development, including:

Challenge activities: Learners, individually or in groups, work to achieve specific objectives within a set timeframe. We schedule these activities for release by September 2026.

Explorer activities: Learners explore the business environment at their own pace and set their own objectives outside the simulation. Existing scenarios, such as the ‘Green Spokes’ company, are examples. We plan to extend these activities with multiple difficulty levels to accommodate a wider range of learners.

Educators can also integrate these activities into taught sessions. We are developing additional resources to support facilitators in guiding learners through Evolution activities effectively.
